How do I become a volunteer?

If you...

  • ... after school you do not know which education or profession you want to take up
  • ... are interested in sports and would like to look after children and young people
  • ... want to do something practical after school that you enjoy
  • ... you want to make good use of the waiting time for a training place or study place
  • ... want to gain new experiences and get to know your own abilities and limits

Here you will find all the necessary information to become a volunteer*r.

Under Information we show you which steps you have to take. You can see here which possibilities and formats there are (Formats & Offers), which legal things you have to consider and how exactly you can find a place of employment (map of places of employment, vacancies).

Here you will find all relevant documents

Find place of operation

Voluntary service in sport (FWD) is completed in a "place of operation". A placement site can be a sports club, sports association, school or kindergarten somewhere in Lower Saxony.

You have to look for this place first. On our map you will find organizations that are already recognized and active in FWD. But also beyond that you can contact your home sports club or your old school, for example. Our information provides you with all important key data, which you can also provide to organizations that are not yet recognized. You can find current job offers on our facebook page.

If you are absolutely not sure what to do, please give us a call - we will advise you!

If you have found an organisation that is interested in working with you as a volunteer, you will have to clarify the formalities together. All important documents can be found in the download area.

Clarify formalities

Together with your future assignment you have to clarify a few things, whether it is already recognized. If not, an application for recognition must be filled out.

All other points must be filled in together on the volunteer registration form:

  • Service type
  • Relevant information about you and your career
  • Service period (from when to when should the contract run?)
  • Seminar focus (which trainer license would you like to make through us?)
  • Main focus of your daily work in the field

Once you have filled out the form together, you send it to us by e-mail, post or fax, signed and stamped (if necessary together with the application for recognition).

Sign the contract

Once we have received the signed volunteer registration form, we draw up the contract on the basis of the data entered. We will send three copies of the contract to the volunteer* and to the place of assignment (one copy must be signed and returned to us, one copy is for your records).

Attention: In case of a Federal Voluntary Service (BFD) we have to send the signed contract to the Federal Office afterwards - therefore the volunteer registration form has to be sent to us at least 6 weeks before the contract starts!

This step is not necessary in the Voluntary Social Year - nevertheless you should send the documents as soon as possible.

Now everything is done and your voluntary service can begin!

Pedagogical support

We offer educational seminars over 25 days to all volunteers. The 25 days of training required by law are divided, for example, into an introductory seminar (5 days), an intermediate and a final seminar (5 days each). The introductory and intermediate seminars are often used to train train trainers. Depending on the training requirements of the trainer licence, up to 10 individually organised seminar days are added.

Throughout the whole year we are your contact person, especially if problems or difficulties arise. In addition, we are in continuous contact with the responsible persons at the training centres.

Current information

We will send you current and important information about your volunteer service by e-mail.

The maintenance of your mailbox (incl. spam folder) is important.
